Your Ford takes you wherever you need to go, and it does this smoothly, efficiently, and comfortably. As time passes, parts will gradually wear out and will need replacement. In addition, your car is subject to many external influences like driving conditions and the environment that can damage it. As your Ford dealer, we’d like to give you some car maintenance tips to keep your Ford in great shape for years to come.

Advice From Your Ford Dealer: 3 Car Maintenance Tips To Keep Your Ford in Great Shape

Check Tire Pressure

Maintaining the correct pressure in your tires helps to reduce damage to them and also reduces strain on other car components.  When you’re driving, the air inside the tires heats up due to friction with the road surface. The excessive amount of air inside an over-inflated tire dramatically increases the tire’s internal pressure, and this can result in a blowout.

Under-inflated tires are subject to additional wear, as the lack of air increases the surface area of the tires in contact with the surface. The larger surface areas increase tire wear and also increase braking distance due to the lack of tire grip. Incorrectly inflated tires place an additional burden on your axles and braking system and also increase fuel consumption.

Check Your Battery

A healthy battery is essential for your Ford, as it must provide the electrical charge that starts your engine. A car battery has a relatively short service life of three to five years. Electricity is stored in the battery in the form of chemical energy, and the chemicals inside the battery gradually break down as they work.

Your battery can also be affected by excessively cold or hot weather. Extreme temperatures affect the electrolyte balance inside the battery and cause the chemicals to decay faster. An unhealthy battery can cause starting problems, headlight bulb failure, and a variety of other issues.  Our service department can test your battery’s health and identify any potential problems it’s experiencing.

Check Your Oil

Oil is an essential fluid in a car’s engine. It lubricates all the engine’s components, allowing them to move easily and freely and protecting them against friction damage. The oil also prevents rust in your engine, reduces the buildup of debris that can cause blockages in the engine, and reduces engine temperature.

Engine oil is gradually consumed in the engine, and this oil loss gradually increases the engine temperature and the potential for friction damage to engine components. Regular oil checks will prevent any of these problems. Checks can also identify any potential oil leaks so they can be repaired before they become a problem.
