Every driver dreads seeing their check engine light coming on. This light is the first sign of a problem somewhere in your engine. As your Ford dealer, we can diagnose and repair any engine problems for you. These are some possible problems that the check engine light might highlight.

3 Engine Problems You Should Always Fix at an Official Ford Dealer

Sensor Problems

Since the 1980s, all cars have a computer and sensors installed in them. The sensors are attached to every important component in your car, and they connect to your car’s computer. The sensor provides information on its attached component and your computer uses this information to make decisions. They are robust, but in time they can call.

Failed sensors can cause many problems for your engine. A faulty sensor can provide false information or no information. Without a clear picture of the situation, your computer can make mistakes, and these mistakes can lead to further problems or additional damage. Our technicians can test your sensors and replace any failed ones.

Failed Starter

Your starter cranks the engine, and in seconds you should hear the sound of your Ford’s engine. The starter is powered by an electrical charge from your battery. If your engine won’t start, and you hear a faint click each time you turn the key, your starter has failed. This is a major problem, as you can’t bypass the starter to get your engine to work.

Starters can fail for several reasons, including a blown starter solenoid, age, and damage from other engine issues. We can test the starter for you and install a new one if it’s broken. If only the solenoid has failed, we can replace it to fix the problem.

Worn Alternator

The alternator is a mini generator that produces your car’s electricity. The alternator uses the mechanical power from the crankshaft to create electrical power for your Ford. Alternators have a lifespan of approximately eight years, but they gradually start to wear out. As the alternator gets older, it slows down and produces less electricity.

The reduced electricity supply will eventually lead to electrical problems, as the alternator won’t be able to supply all your car’s needs. If this happens, you’ll experience dim lights, electrical glitches, and other issues. These problems will appear randomly and will grow more frequent as the alternator continues to fail. We can test your alternator and repair or replace it, depending on the situation.

Your engine is a highly complex piece of machinery with a large number of interconnected systems. If one component fails, it can cause other components to fail too. If something doesn’t seem, feel, or sound right, call the experts at Beachum and Lee Ford, Inc.
