Three Great Local Attractions Near Wadesboro, NC

Rankin Museum of American Heritage

This museum is located at 131 Church St in Ellerbe and is a great spot to browse alone or take the kids. This museum specializes in curating natural history items and items of interest to local history. The base of the museum was built around the lifetime collection of Dr. Pressley R. Rankin, and it has only been growing since then.

Here you’ll find all kinds of taxidermy, Native American pottery and art, a nice gift shop, and a lot more. There’s plenty of seating throughout the museum, so you can take your time and rest as you need. This is also a wheelchair-accessible location, with a cool gift shop and a self-guided scavenger hunt to keep the kids busy. They open from 10AM until 5PM from Wednesday through Saturday and on Sunday from 2PM until 5PM.

Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham

head over to 233 E Washington St in Rockingham if you have kids: they’ll love this outing, and it will get out all their wiggles and give you a chance to breathe. They are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30AM until 4:30PM. Kids under one-year-old are free, and everyone else is $8 a person unless you’re a member.

This place offers live shows, science shows, and all kinds of cool exhibits. Just one example is the I CAN Imagine area, where kids (and adults) can sit down at block tables and use all the recycled and art materials available to build whatever they want. There’s a water table, where kids can learn which items float and which sink, air table with blowing air tubes, and a lot more. This whole place is great fun.

Anson County Historical Society

At 206 E Wade St here in Wadesboro, this historical society is open from 9AM until 1PM from Tuesday through Saturday. If you’re at all interested in the history of our area, you’ll want to stop here and talk to the helpful and knowledgeable staff, look through the available research material, or just get a great historical book.

At the society, you can also pick up a brochure that will allow you to knowledgeably explore the downtown historic district. The society keeps a robust collection of media, including silent videos, lots of photos, and more modern videos that tell the story of Anson County. They also have a nice collection of artifacts and plenty of space for researchers to set up shop and learn more.

These are just a few great places to visit if you’re based in Anson County. When you need a great new vehicle or reliable service to keep your Ford running smoothly for all your local adventures, visit us at Beachum and Lee Ford!
